Updates in Diagnosis and Management of Adenomyosis

Lecture Abstract:
Adenomyosis is a benign disease also called endometriosis of the uterus. It is a benign uterine disorder in which endometrial glands and stroma are pathologically demonstrated in the myometrium. Symptoms of adenomyosis may present as abnormal uterine bleeding, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, or infertility. However, one third of affected women are asymptomatic. Two proposed diagnostic classifications to be discussed: clinical histological classification system, and imaging classification with description by Ultrasound and MRI.  Management of disease is focused on symptoms and tailored upon patient’s age and fertility preferences. Laparoscopic management of adenomyosis will be discussed in details with risks and complications.
